In May 2020, the floods occurred as an overflow of water from the rivers Nyamwamba, Nyamugasani, Rwembya – Kisinga Subcounty and Kisinga Town council, Lhubiriha – Ihandiro Subcounty, Kitholhu Subcounty, Karambi Sub County and Mpondwe Lhubiriha Town council, and Thaku- Kitholhu Sub County, Mubuku, because of bursting their banks. Floods, imply a large amount of water rising and then spreading across a region. Heavy rains and landslides have caused a lot of disaster in the Kasese District.
In the long term, these disasters slow regional economic growth for decades. Bridges, roads, and utilities are destroyed. Homeowners who aren’t covered by insurance go bankrupt. Many can’t rebuild and must move elsewhere.
Management of disasters should therefore be an interface between a community effort to mitigate and prevent disasters as also an effort from the government machinery to buttress and support popular initiatives.
AFHOD Director and KKACCO team came in to offer some short time solutions responding to the pandemic. Below are some of the contributions done in response to the pandemic.
