Orphan & Vulnerable Children Support:

At AFHOD, we continue to be cognizant of the existing situations of orphans and vulnerable children in Kasese District. This area of focus is highly embraced through our programming due to the outcomes it may bring if not attended to with strategic planning and support with feasible resources. As a result, we are thus able to;

  • Improve the quality of life of Orphans & Vulnerable Children affected and infected by HIV/AIDS through provision of clothes and scholastic materials.
  • Provide psychosocial care and economic support to Orphans & Vulnerable Children and caregivers for improved livelihoods.

Economic Empowerment:

Our Economic empowerment program aims at increasing access to sustainable employment opportunities for youth and women including those living with HIV in Kasese District.  The program focuses on equipping them with life skills that can help them earn a living. The activities to help achieve this key program are piggery farming, tailoring, bee farming and baking.

— Our Story

Aid for Hope and Development is a Community Based Organization (Not – for Profit)  in Kasese District, Rwenzori Region, Uganda established in response to contributing to the alleviation of challenges created by the HIV/AIDS scourge, poverty and mitigating the adverse effects of consistent floods. AFHOD embarked on strategies at the time to address these challenges and recognized that there is a need for communities to rebuild and re-empower. The organization establishment was prompted by the growing admiration that there has been considerably limited participation and support to the rural communities in development activities towards the Sustainable Development goals.

Aid for Hope and Development (AFHOD) seeks to provide support to marginalized communities across Kasese District with a prime focus of enhancing better healthy living and improved household livelihood to have a better quality of life.

We are a Community Based organization seeking to improve the psycho-social and economic wellbeing of people living with Living HIV, Adolescent Girls and Young Women/Mothers (AGYW), underprivileged families, and the whole community through primary health care and other community development initiatives.

Her Story

Ms Rosette Maska, the founder of AFHOD grew up in a humble family of 11 children, 7 girls and 4 boys from a remote area in Kyanduli village, bwera subcounty in Kasese district. Life was well for her at a young age because her parents were civil servants.

At a young age she used to lead a group of young girls across the village and formed a choir that performed music, dance and drama which she called Butembo choir. Its peak time was normally the holiday time after breaking off from school when the pupils were able to gather every evening for an activity. The parents supported her in this devotion.

The parents to the young girls that she led were so interested in the idea and they supported it. From this, she realized that she could create a big positive impact in the community. Later on, she started to reach out to remote areas helping the needy especially disadvantaged and vulnerable children.

During the holiday time at her university level, she engaged in sensitization of a girl child to stay in school. These programmes were done under the Big sister foundation in kasese district. The  target grpups were girls schools in kasese: notably st Thereza girls sec school and mt Rwenzori girls schools. The sensitization programmes were embraced by the schools and the school manangement.

After her education, she got married. Rosette has lived to become truly a light-bearer to the community from which she hails as she believes that every effort no matter how small can have a considerable amount of good especially to those who are in need. Her life mantra is “ do good and good will come to you
